Learn with Technology Program
A program based on how students learn through quality teaching and learning experiences that are enhanced by technology in the primary years.
A program based on how students learn through quality teaching and learning experiences that are enhanced by technology in the primary years.
One of the largest factors on a student’s learning is the teacher1 (Hattie, 2009). On that claim, Steven Dinham goes on to classify that; the better the teacher, the better the learning. Therefore, it is in a school’s best interest to engage with a teacher’s learning and engage in a Professional Learning Community. A quality teacher is the ‘great equaliser’ in a classroom and teacher development will help fulfil the goal to make “Best practice, common practice”2 (Dinham, 2016).
The focus of this four-day series commencing in Term 2 will be on the research that supports teachers to utilise technology to create an engaging, thinking and learning environment. The days will integrate the Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) as a point of reference to support and guide the use of technology. Resources created will be shared with participating schools and become CEWA exemplars. The program will focus on what technology integration looks like for students and will be aimed at teachers who want to increase their students’ capacity to engage, think and learn with technology.
Day One: 7 May
Day Two: 23 July
Day Three: 10 September
Day Four: 5 November

A program to support Middle Leaders exploring what digital transformation looks like in individual school contexts and how to support staff progress towards meaningful integration of technology.
Lingard, Hayes, Mills and Christie3 (2003) and others have found that unlike principals, middle leaders are positioned much closer to the classroom, and so have opportunities to lead the improvement of educational outcomes. Middle leaders are critical in the development of quality learning outcomes because they exercise their leading in and around classrooms. This program recognises that middle leaders more directly impact classroom practices and learning outcomes, and so they can be ‘transformational’ leaders through the core business of schooling — learning and teaching.
The purpose of this program is to support middle leaders in schools, as they implement initiatives in leading the learning and personal growth of students and staff in which they work through the lens of digital transformation. This program is designed to cater for those leading either curriculum or pastoral roles. Participants will engage in two days of face to face learning in addition to on-line webinars and optional drop-in sessions to support and extend a learning-focused project applied back at school. On-site visits will also be available to participants as the program progresses.
Day One: 6 April (Face to face)
Online/face-to-face drop-in: 10 May, 21 June, 26 July, 23 August
Day Two: 23 November (Face to face)

A program to continue the work of the Content Coalition initiative aimed at bringing Secondary educators together to create courses across many Learning Areas and build an ongoing, self-sustaining community of practice.
In 2015 and 2016, the Content Coalition brought together several high achieving CEWA primary and secondary schools to generate digital content and workflows for Year 6, 7 and 8 Science. The content created was accessible to all participants during and after the process and was published to the iTunes store. This initiative drew on a variety of skill-sets from the different schools and builds capacity at leadership and teacher level in the content creation space. Twelve iTunesU courses and twenty-two multi-touch books were created by the teachers as part of the initiative.
Catholic Education Western Australia and LEADing Lights is seeking to expand and build on this work by bringing together educators to participate in a subsequent Content Coalition. The aim of the 2018 Content Coalition is to bring together educators to create courses to complement the Science courses currently available in addition to other learning areas in accordance with the skill set of the participants. It is recommended that more than one participant attend from each school.
