Learn with Technology, LEADing Learning – Regional Day 1

May 11, 2018

LEADing Learning for Digital Transformation

Target Audience: Middle Leaders in a secondary context

Lingard, Hayes, Mills and Christie (2003) and others have found that unlike principals, middle leaders are positioned much closer to the classroom, and so have opportunities to lead the improvement of educational outcomes. Middle leaders are critical in the development of quality learning outcomes because they exercise their leading in and around classrooms. This program recognises that middle leaders more directly impact classroom practices and learning outcomes, and so they can be ‘transformational’ leaders through the core business of schooling — learning and teaching
Many schools are starting to rethink the role and purpose of middle leaders and as such are beginning to expect more of their role. While middle leaders were once considered curriculum and wellbeing “administrators”, middle leaders now play the role of supervisors and coaches leading the development of the teachers they manage in their own departments. Middle leaders also play the role of in-school researcher, bringing in and disseminating research within the school to help make education a more evidence-based profession.
The purpose of this program is to support middle leaders in a secondary schools, as they implement initiatives in leading the learning and personal growth of students and staff in which they work through the lens of digital transformation. This program is designed to cater for those leading either curriculum or pastoral roles. Participants will engage in two days of face to face learning in addition to on-line webinars and optional drop-in sessions to support and extend a learning-focused project applied back at school. On-site visits will also be available to participants as the program progresses.

Day One

11th May – LEADing Learning for Digital Transformation

Onsite/Virtual School Visits

6th August, 17th September

Day Two

12th November – Sharing Learning for Digital Transformation

By participating in this initiative, participants will:

  • Develop an understanding of digital transformation at a system, school and classroom level
  • Develop an understanding of how current teaching and learning experiences can be enhanced in a digital space
  • Become familiar with the Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) as a framework for describing and targeting the use of technology to enhance learning.
  • Be supported with use of the CEWA Office 365 tools and their implementation for productivity, teaching and learning
  • Be provided with an opportunity to develop a learning-focused project to implement what they have learned within their leadership role back at school.
  • Build an ongoing network across schools, supporting one another in the implementation of initiatives in their schools

Learn with Technology

A programme based on how students learn through quality teaching and learning experiences that are enhanced by technology.

One of the largest factors on a student’s learning is the teacher (Hattie, 2009). On that claim, Steve Dinham goes on to classify that; the better the teacher, the better the learning. Therefore, it is in a school’s best interest to engage with a teacher’s learning and engage in a Professional Learning Community. A quality teacher is the ‘great equaliser’ in a classroom and teacher development will help fulfil the goal to make “Best practice, common practice” (Dinham, 2016).
We have a four day series commencing in Term 2 that will focus on the research supporting the science of learning and how we can use technology to further enhance the impact of our teaching and student learning. The days will integrate the Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) as a point of reference to support and guide the use of technology. Resources created will be shared within the schools attending and as CEWA exemplars to guide others through the TIM levels. The programme will focus on what technology looks like for the students and will be aimed at teachers who want to increase their students’ capacity to learn with technology.

Day One
